What is vodka?

Vodka is a clear, distilled alcoholic beverage and is usually made from grain or potatoes. What makes the spirit special is its unmistakable purity and its mild, neutral taste. In most cases, vodka is distilled and filtered multiple times to remove ethyl acetate, ethyl lactate and fusel oils. This creates a clean aroma and a fine structure.

Grey Goose Vodka

Grey Goose Vodka is without a doubt the most popular vodka brand in France. In 1996, the successful American entrepreneur Sidney Frank had the idea to develop a premium vodka for the American market. To ensure the highest quality, he decided to work with the renowned cognac producer François Thibault. The choice of France as the production location was well thought out: The entrepreneurs found that France was perfectly suited for the production of vodka due to its culinary history. Additionally, the unusual location provided a unique selling point compared to the competing brands which were largely from Eastern Europe.

Today, Grey Goose vodka has been produced for more than 20 years with French spring water and locally grown French wheat. Grey Goose can be easily recognized by the smoked glass bottle, which is decorated with French geese.

Cîroc Vodka

Cîroc was founded in 2003 and represents the absolute exception in the vodka market as the company produces its spirit exclusively from grapes. The brand was founded by Jean-Sebastien Robicquet whose family originates from the wine-growing region Bordeaux and has been in the wine business for an astounding 400 years. After Robicquet gained experience working for the cognac producer Hennessy for ten years, he was asked by the British group Diageo whether he’d be interested in creating a vodka made from grapes.

Today, Cîroc Vodka is available in countless flavours – for example French vanilla, coconut, mango and amaretto.
